Freedom Fighter (Bonus Track Version)

Freedom Fighter (Bonus Track Version)

Tirelessly prolific and unfailingly consistent, Anthony B is one of the most successful contemporary roots performers. His rugged singjay style combines quick-tongued microphone chatter with deeply felt roots melodies, and he's been impressing listeners at home and abroad since hits like “Fire Pon Rome” and “Repentance Time” helped spark a revival in conscious reggae in the mid-‘90s. Freedom Fighter is Anthony B’s 17th proper full-length, finding the singer collaborating with the Austrian production team Irievibrations. Sticking with a single production crew works well for Anthony B. It gives Freedom Fighter a remarkably consistent sound and feel, even as Irievibrations try their hands at a number of different styles, from the synth-laced dancehall crusher “Beat Dem Bad” to the militant roots of the album’s title track. Another clear standout is the loping “Born to Be Free,” an uplifting sufferer’s anthem that recalls the uncompromising roots productions of early Anthony B releases like So Many Things and That’s Life.
